Fantastic First Campervan Experience

We spent our first ever five nights in a Campervan recently and loved every single second. The camper van was so much more spacious than we had imagined. We all had enough space to move around and plenty of storage space. We loved the cosy nights and waking up in the great outdoors. We will be doing much more campervanning in the future!

Great but not what it seems

Really fun, amazing people but not quite as hop-on, hop-off as it seems. We were highly recommended the experience, and for good reason but if you want to get off the beaten track, you need to take your own initiative. Also, if you plan to stay more days than the ‘minimum time’, PRE BOOK YOUR ITINERARY - especially during high season. You can’t be as spontaneous as advertised, but overall I think it’s worth it.

Great way to get around fast and see a lot!

What a great tour! Took the whole kit and caboodle trip, where you got to see a lot of the great nature and culture of New Zealand. Would definitely recommend. We also had some great drivers, especially Q (quentin) , Cory and cuddles (Dave) were great! I would recommend doing Milford sound and the tamaki village experience while you are in New Zealand. Definitely worth it.

The best and worst things about the school bus

Firstly, I’m super glad I took the Kiwi bus for the time that I did. However, I’m also glad I left the bus and embarked on trips of my own to new destinations away from the ‘hop on, hop off bus’. I travelled on The Funky Chicken pass, from Auckland down to Queenstown and part of the way back up to Wellington. It was on the way back up that I branched out more. Taking independent trips to Kaikoura, Whanganui, New Plymouth, Paihia and Whangarei. Lots of the places on the trip were more enjoyable because of the company of the bus and because of the amazing tour guides who on the most part give great insight into the stories and the heritage associated with the amazing landscapes around you. I also was able to reach places difficult to get to via public transport - like River Valley, one of my favourite bits. Cowboy was by far my favourite driver with the friendliest manner and the most informative commentary. He charmed us all! Stretch comes a close second with a fab grasp of the Maori culture and a nice chilled bus vibe. If you’re looking for the security of a group and garaunteed accommodation then this is the tour for you. It’s easy to make friends and turn yourself on autopilot some days when you’re not up for making travel plans. However its often a very young Brit/German crowd and can feel a little ‘schooly’ at times, especially in peak season. You get on and off the bus as a large group and it can be hard to feel independent... you don’t meet enough kiwis for a start! All in all 100% worth it but I won’t be taking a trip like this again purely because it doesn’t push you out of your comfort zone. I didn’t realise this was something I needed.

The best trip ever!

Was not expecting on going to New Zealand but whiles I was traveling around in Australia everyone who had been said it was the most amazing country! You got to see so much beauty and traveling with the kiwi experience you got to meet so much people! Decided after my east coast that I would give it a go, last minute thing and it was the best decision I’ve ever made! Had the most intense amazing 3 weeks full with lovely people and thrilling activities! Was very hectic and a lot of moving around but wouldn’t change one bit! Have met friends for life and we’ve experiences so much together! Was a bit worried in the beginning due to that I’m traveling alone, but first buss I’ve met one friend that Bacame such good friends with! And even that we didn’t have the exact same itinerary we kept bumping in to each other throughout the country! The only bad thing was that you had to leave your friends in the end and that the “hop on hop off” didn’t really work that freely. I was traveling in high season so I’m not so surprised by the fact that busses and hostels were full. But over all so thankful and great full for this experience and trip! 10/10!

The greatest month of my life

I really enjoyed traveling with Kiwi Experience. We had some great drivers that I want to mention, "Q" and Cuddles. They were really funny and gave great info, they were also very helpful with everything. I met so many new people and I had so much fun on this trip!! I would definitely do it again.

Great experience, system needs to be streamlined

Very convenient and made meeting people easy. But not a hop on hop off service. Perfect if you only stay the minimum number of nights at each stop but whenever you try and stay extra nights you must ring up the Kiwi Experience office - and the majority of time you'll be put on standby as most of the buses are full. There's no way of changing your itinerary online and doing it via email is hit and miss - an online booking form would save everyone a lot of hassle.
