Didn't really know what I was expecting. But everything was super convenient. The drivers were great. And NZ is awesome

A great way to seen New Zealand in 6 weeks!
I used the kiwi bus through the summer if 2017/18 for around 5 months, hopping off a few times to work in places. The bus is really fun; a great way to meet other backpackers and fun activities on offer. They have a great route that stops at some really beautiful places, all filled with absolute "must do's" in New Zealand. If you love your nature, the Waitomo Caves and Milford Sound should be top of your lists! If its Adrenaline, a Sky Dive in the Alps and the mighty "Nevis Bungey" (shudder) are the go-to's. Overall, it was a fantastic Kiwi experience.

Nice for my first trip
My overall experience was pretty fun! The drivers were cool and answered all my questions if I was confused. But I would say that kiwi is less hop on hop off than it advertises itself as.. and it would be nice if every bus has WiFi which would make so many people’s lives easier! But for me kiwi was sweet as :)

Once in a lifetime!
I decided to do Kiwi Ex as I was travelling solo and thought it would be a great way to make friends and to see as much of New Zealand as possible in a short ish amount of time. Kiwi Experience exceeded all my expectations and I can honestly say I had the best 6 weeks of my life. I’ve made life long friends, seen places and done activities I never thought I would and have been the happiest I’ve been in a long time. The drivers’ enthusiasm and knowledge of the country makes a real difference in the experience and I learnt so much from them. New Zealand will forever have a place in my heart and I have Kiwi Experience to thank for that!

Semi nice journey
We did the trip as a couple and in general we liked kiwi experience. We hoped for a relaxed journey, but it wasn't at all. Hostels were crowded and dirty, buses were crowded and we weren't flexible. Only good for party. It felt like a school trip with the driver as a teacher.

Awesome for meeting people, not for travelling
The Kiwi Ex buses are an excellent way of meeting fellow travelers and making new friends to share your journey with. They also take you to all the major destinations that you would like to visit and do promote some great activities too. However, the whole standby process is a shambles in the north island and can really mess up the experience, especially if you want to hop off. The only way this works is if you plan out your itinerary beforehand and stick to it religiously. But this can get in the way of making the most of your trip and defeats the point of a hop on, hop off tour. The buses themselves are a mixed bunch with some brand new and others old and breaking down (literally in one case for me). This inconsistency isn't really good enough. They can also feel a bit too much like a school trip at times with forced games and all the clipboards for activities etc. Hopefully this will be different once the new tablet system is implemented. The drivers are generally excellent, being a good mix of fun, safe and knowledgeable about NZ with only a couple of mine not fitting this standard. The other issue was that the activities offered were not always at the best price as described. Often on looking around for the same or similar experiences you could get them for less. The Deep South leg of the tour was not with Kiwi Ex as expected but with Bottom bus. The standard here slipped significantly with nothing to do in Invercargill due to a late arrival after Milford Sound, no activities offered in either Invercargill or Dunedin and nothing on the Kiwi Ex app to help either. All in all this part of the pass wasn't worth it. Overall it was a fun trip, but I don't think I would have done it if I could start the trip over again.

Great way to travel
Our first time in a campervan. We were able to stop and enjoy the scenery and had everything with us, including a freezer! It was excellent and we are now hooked and will campervan again.
